AUBURN, Ala. | Auburn coach Gus Malzahn didn't want Crestview (Fla.) receiver Marquis McClain to leave the Tigers' cookout on Saturday not committed.
McClain walked out of Auburn's Athletics Complex at the end of the day, but was informed he needed to turn around.
"Coach Malzahn called me back in," McClain said. "He wanted to know where I stood with them and what my plans were."
McClain didn't hesitate. He already knew.
"I told him that I'm committing," McClain said. "I told him I felt really comfortable at Auburn and that it felt like home."
McClain, who is 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, picked up an offer from Auburn in June after a standout performance at camp. At camp, McClain ran a 4.49-second 40-yard dash, had a 38-inch vertical leap and caught everything thrown to him.
McClain chose Auburn over offers from Mississippi State, Nebraska, Minnesota, Purdue, South Florida, South Alabama and Troy, among others.
"Auburn is losing four receivers next year so I should have a great opportunity to play early," McClain said.
McClain is Auburn's 12th commitment in the 2016 class and second receiver. Niceville (Fla.) Rivals100 receiver Elijah Stove committed to Auburn in May. Both are Tiger commitments and friends. The two rode together to Auburn on Friday.
They'll be doing lots of it in the future. Stove has remained solid to the Tigers and McClain plans to.
"It feels great," McClain said. "I'm solid to Auburn."
McClain is Auburn's second commitment of the day. Southside (Gadsden, Ala.) 2017 Rivals250 athlete Alaric Williams committed in the morning.
