AUBURN | Chandler Wooten announced in May that he would sign with Auburn. Seven months later, the top linebacker recruit will honor that commitment.

Wooten, from North Cobb High in Kennesaw, Ga., will sign a Financial Aid Agreement with Auburn on Thursday.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Wooten said. “I’m looking forward to being a part of something special.”

Wooten is one of five commitments scheduled to enroll at Auburn in January. The others are cornerback Malcolm Askew, linebacker K.J. Britt, offensive lineman Nick Brahms and transfer quarterback Jarrett Stidham.

Wooten plans to move to Auburn on Jan. 8. His roommate will be Brahms, the offensive lineman from Navarre, Fla. Wooten and Brahms both were in Auburn last weekend on official visits.

“It went great; I loved it,” Wooten said of his visit. “I spent a lot of time with the coaches and was around the players a lot. Derrick Brown was my player host and I enjoyed everything. My parents were with me and they loved it, too.”

Wooten and his parents attended Auburn’s Athletic Banquet Saturday night.

“It was good to see all of the seniors awarded for their accomplishments,” Wooten said.

Wooten, while attending the banquet, also saw the news of Stidham’s commitment. The former Baylor quarterback announced Saturday night on Twitter that he would enroll at Auburn in January.

“The coaches were very, very excited,” Wooten said. “They took some time to jump on Twitter and do what they do.”

So did Wooten.

“It was a big-time addition,” Wooten said. “To get such a high-caliber player, who I definitely think will come in and compete, will be great. I’m looking forward to being on the same team as him.”

Wooten also is a high-caliber player. He proved it again during his senior season.

Wooten helped lead North Cobb to a 10-3 record by recording 125 tackles, two sacks, 15 tackles-for-loss, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, a blocked kick and three pass break-ups. He recently was named Georgia’s Region 3 - 7A Defensive Player of the Year.

Wooten, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 225 pounds, will play in the Under-Amour All-America Game on Jan. 1.

“I’ll move to Auburn after that,” Wooten said. “It's been a long journey, but it feels great.”
