AUBURN | Auburn appears set to sign a junior college wide receiver in December, and played host to one of its top targets this weekend.
Jeff George, a Tennessee commitment from Dodge City (Kan.) Community College, was in Auburn on an official visit.
"The visit went really well," George said. "I enjoyed all of it."
George, who is 6-foot-6 and 195 pounds, arrived in Auburn on Friday. He spent time with receivers coach Dameyune Craig, toured the campus and facilities and on Saturday attended Auburn's game against Georgia.
"I liked it all, but the part I enjoyed the most was probably the game," George said. "The atmosphere was great."
George isn't ruling out experiencing it as a player next season. He's committed to Tennessee, but hasn't ruled out a switch to Auburn. The Tigers have struggled at the quarterback position, including Saturday against the Bulldogs, but George is confident the position won't be a liability for Auburn in the future.
That includes both Sean White and Jeremy Johnson.
"I want to go somewhere I can get on the field right away and has someone who can get me the ball," George said. "I know they (White and Johnson) are both good, but are having troubles right now."
George visited Tennessee in the summer and plans to return to Knoxville on Nov. 27. He will continue to stay in contact with Auburn and Craig. The receivers coach is a big reason the Tigers are an option.
"I like Coach Craig a lot," George said. "We'll just see how it goes."
George graduated from Leavenworth (Kan.) High in 2013 and signed with Southwestern Oklahoma State, a Division II school in Oklahoma. He transferred to Dodge City after a redshirt year at SWOSU.
George was selected second-team all-conference this season after finishing with 45 receptions for 659 yards and five touchdowns.
