Top players shine at AU Senior Camp

Auburn's first senior mini camp of 2010 took place on Sunday, as some of the top players from across the southeast took part in the event.
The prospects went through individual drills, ran the forty, participated in shuttle drills, competed in one-on-one's, and finished the day with 7-on-7 team work.

One top prospect on the field Sunday was Gainesville (Ga.) linebacker A.J. Johnson. Johnson, the No. 18 ranked inside linebacker in the country, is a physical specimen that shows good skills covering from the linebacker position.
He also showed good agility in cone drills, and certainly looks the part of a top prospect nationally looking every bit of the 6-foot-3, 226-pounds that he claims.
Matthews (N.C.) Butler athlete Kris Frost was the highest ranked player according to Rivals at the camp, coming in at No. 27 in the first Rivals100.
Frost worked out as a wide receiver, running one-on-one's and working in 7-on-7's. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound prospect performed well running routes, and showed physicality getting off the line of scrimmage when corners attempted to jam him.
Frost, who has been in Auburn since Friday, made an acrobatic one handed catch in some team work Saturday, and continued to give defenders trouble on Sunday.
Two instate standouts in the defensive backfield performed up to their hype as well, as Valley (Ala.) safety Erique Florence, and Leeds (Ala.) corner Jonathan Rose were impressive.
Florence performed well despite having a hip pointer, and showed good agility and speed in covering receivers out on the edge. He was taken deep a few times, but was step for step with the receiver and was showing no signs of being slowed down.
Rose, who is an incredibly fluid athlete at 6-foot-1, has long arms and never lets a receiver get out of reach. He has good speed, quickness, and rarely is out of reach for a pass thrown his way.
Unfortunately, Rose and Frost didn't matchup, but Florence and Frost did.
The hyped matchup of two of the top players in the country was a good one, as Frost attempted the out and up on Florence, but Florence didn't bite and was step for step with Frost up the sidelines. The coverage was so good in fact, that the pass wasn't even thrown in their direction.
Another player we mentioned coming into the camp was Homewood (Ala.) running back Ameer Abdullah. Abdullah reportedly ran a 4.55, recorded the highest vertical in his group at 37 inches, and ran one of the faster shuttle times at the camp in a 4.3 range.
Abdullah has already shown what he can do at running back earning two MVP awards at the last two camps he attended, so he changed it up and worked out at corner during one-on-one's and individual drills on Sunday.
As quick as Abdullah is, he could probably play either position and excel at both. He showed some nice agility at corner, and seemed to be a quick learner, despite having limited action at the position before the camp.
Another offensive prospect that was impressive on Sunday was Madison (Ala.) Bob Jones receiver Collins Moore.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound receiver was regularly beating defenders on one-one-one's and 7-on-7 work. He was no match for linebackers in the slot, and routinely beat corners on deep and short routes.
Moore, who has offers from LSU, Kentucky, Illinois, Louisville, and more, had an impressive showing, and no doubt raised his stock in the Auburn coaches eyes.
A couple of junior's that looked good were Birmingham (Ala.) Spain Park offensive lineman Ben Tamburello, and Leeds (Ala.) linebacker Javier Mitchell.
Tamburello is just entering his junior season, but already looks the part of a future Division I player.
Mitchell is a bit raw, but reportedly checked in at around 6-foot-3, and 210-pounds, and ran a 4.46 forty. He will no doubt be one of the top prospects in the state of Alabama for 2012.
