Top in-state junior lands AU offer

One of the top athletes in the state of Alabama in 2012 is Mobile (Ala.) Faith Academy's Chris Casher.
Casher made his first trip to Auburn on Saturday for an unofficial visit during the Tigers last mini camp of the summer.

"It was nice, it was my first time being down here," Casher said. "They showed me around campus, it was nice. They showed me around the stadium, campus, dorm rooms. They showed me a lot."
Casher had the opportunity to meet with Auburn head coach Gene Chizik for the first time. Casher said it was a meeting that Chizik had been trying to setup for awhile, and it payed off for Casher with an early offer from the Tigers.
"I met with coach Chizik," Casher said. "He just told me I definitely had an offer to play here and to enjoy my recruitment. It means a lot, it was kind of special."
The 6-foot-4, 225-pound standout has been a three year starter at Faith Academy, and already has connections to Auburn.
Casher's cousin is former Auburn corner back Larry Casher. Larry played at Auburn from 1997-2000. Chris said Larry isn't on him too hard about playing at Auburn, but does keep the thought fresh in his mind.
The younger Casher is not only a standout football player, but plays three positions on his high school basketball team as well. Getting time at the small forward, power forward, and center positions. Although football is Casher's first love, he wouldn't mind giving basketball a try in college as well.
"He (Chizik) said he wanted to get me up here," Casher said. "He said I'd have the opportunity to play both sports, football and basketball if I wanted to."
