Auburn's offense struck out eight times within the first three innings.
In the fourth inning, it seemed like the Tigers couldn't miss.
Auburn scored 12 runs off seven hits in the fourth inning on its way to run-ruling Troy 12-2 Wednesday night, as the Tigers wrapped up non-conference play with a 20-1 record.
"It started to become a little bit of a head-scratching, like, how are we going to break through this thing?" said head coach Chris Malveaux. "This team did such an incredible job of just, alright, we're going back to the drawing board. We're going to sit down and figure out, you know, what we can do to adjust. And they really just stuck with it."
Freshman AnnaLea Adams started the rally with a two-run double to tie the game for Auburn, which entered the inning trailing 2-0.
Kylie Brockman gave the Tigers the lead with one swing — her first career home run — which scored three runs to put Auburn in front 5-2.
"I honestly threw my hand up the second I hit it," Brockman said. "Honestly it was just a feeling of joy because I haven't been rolling how I've wanted to. I've been trusting the plan, working with Chris and everyone has been supporting me. I was just super glad that it finally paid off and super happy."
Nelia Peralta, KK McCrary and Brockman again homered in the inning as Auburn tallied four home runs in the frame. Skylar Elkins and Icess Tresvik also recorded RBI in the inning.
With the win, Auburn will enter SEC play sitting at 20-1, with a three-game series on the road against Mississippi State to get things going. First pitch for the first game is set for 5 p.m. CST Saturday evening.
"Now we're at a point where we can start talking about Mississippi State," Malveaux said. "We've just got to be committed to what we're looking to do, be free to do it and be aggressive while we're doing it."
