AUBURN | Fletcher Westphal already had over two dozen offers. He added another from Auburn Wednesday.
Although the talented 2024 offensive tackle fro Tuscaroa in Leesburg, Va., already knew it was coming.
“It definitely means a lot,” said Westphal. “They actually offered me at the TCU camp and I knew they were going to make it more official because they knew I was coming to camp.”
Westphal, 6-foot-8 and 325 pounds, was a standout during AU’s OL/DL camp, earning underclassmen MVP honors. He got a lot of 1-on-1 instruction from AU offensive line coach Will Friend.
“Amazing coach. You need some adjustments, get it done. He works you hard,” said Westphal. “It was great. Great competition.”
This was Westphal’s first trip to Auburn and only second time being in the state of Alabama. He arrived Tuesday night with his parents and got a good look at the campus and town.
“Last night, we were driving through campus a bunch — beautiful,” said Westphal. “It’s old but it’s like new. It’s kept clean. There’s modern touches to it. It’s an absolutely beautiful campus.”
Westphal’s offers include a number of top programs such as Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Miami, North Carolina, Penn State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, West Virginia and Stanford.
“It’s definitely a lot, a lot to keep track of almost. It’s a blessing,” he said.
As for any early favorites, well, Westphal couldn’t be any more open.
“We didn’t watch sports when I was younger so it’s kind of like a blank slate,” he said.
Westphal plans to camp at Clemson Thursday, Georgia Friday, Alabama Saturday. He also has plans to camp at Ohio State, South Carolina, Virginia Tech in the coming weeks, and is planning a West coast trip for later this summer.
He may return to Auburn for a game this fall.
