Tigers in final two for Texas DE

Auburn | Anthony James, from Wylie, Tx., has one more visit and after that, he plans to make a college decision in early July.

His recent official to Auburn pushed the Tigers into the leader's spot for the Wylie East product's list.

“Definitely at the top,” James said. “So far, after this weekend, there’s no one else really recruiting me like they have.”

James said that he is down to two schools: Auburn and Washington. He will be in Washington next weekend for his final official.

James spent a lot of time hanging with defensive line coach Jimmy Brumbaugh where they talked a bit about football and more about life.

“He’s a great guy,” James said. “I could tell he’s more like an in-person kind of person - getting to talk him like he’s all open talking about the scheme of football, more of it was talking life and family.”

Standing at 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds, James said that he could play multiple positions if he came to Auburn.

“They want me to be prepared for the NFL if I choose to go there," James said. Defensive end, defensive tackle, I can play any one of those. You’re more useful if you can play multiple things.”

James said that Auburn is “definitely a place to come back to” and that he would “probably” be back for a game, but no date is set for that.

James is a 3-star strongside defensive end in the class of 2023. He is the 53rd-ranked SDE in the country. He was previously committed to Texas A&M.
