AUBURN | The path for No. 1 Auburn is clear.

Win two of its final four conference games and the Tigers will win an SEC regular season championship for the third time in the last seven years.

Win three and they clinch the title outright.

Of course, that timeline could move forward with any losses by No. 6 Alabama or No. 3 Florida. Auburn is currently 13-1 in the league with the Tide and Gators tied for second at 11-3.

The Tigers could clinch a share of the title Wednesday with a Florida loss at Georgia Tuesday along with an Auburn win over Ole Miss and an Alabama loss to No. 24 Mississippi State Wednesday.

One of the strengths of AU’s team this season is being able to focus on the next opponent, but that doesn’t mean the players don’t understand what’s at stake over the next 11 days.

“Every game is challenging but what we have in the locker room is we’re competing for a championship,” said Dylan Cardwell. “If we drop one of these games, we shoot ourselves in the foot, per se, for an SEC Championship.

“So these games might mean a lot to these other teams, but they mean just as much to us. It’s tough playing against teams that have extra motivation, like, ‘Hey, our postseason depends on this.’ But a ring depends on it for us.”

Cardwell is one of 10 seniors or fifth-year scholarship players on Auburn’s roster, which has been one of the keys to their consistent play all season.

“It's a combination of having a bunch of older guys,” said AU coach Bruce Pearl. “They're starting to see the end of this thing in the regular season. And they don't want to waste opportunities. I think that sometimes keeps them engaged and continuing to work. Obviously we're trying to play for championships.”

Tip-off at Neville Arena is scheduled for Wednesday night at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
