Stutts relishes opportunity to compete at Auburn camp

AUBURN | Kameron Stutts doesn’t have anything left to prove to Auburn’s coaches.

But the offensive guard from Brooks in Killen, Ala., who committed to the Tigers before the spring game April 8, couldn’t pass up on an opportunity to get better so he opted to participate in OL/DL portion of Auburn’s camp Friday.

That willingness to compete without anything left to prove from a recruiting standpoint impressed his future position coach, Herb Hand.

“He said it made him really excited to work with me as a player, just showing that work ethic,” Stutts said. “I showed him that I really cared about it and wanted to come up here and get better.”

It also gave Stutts an opportunity to continue to improve on certain parts of his game as he prepares for his senior season and eventually transitioning to SEC football.

“One thing I've been focusing on with my coaches and (Hand) said some was my pad level and staying low. That's pretty much my main thing,” Stutts said.

Stutts likes Hand’s plan for him once he arrives in Auburn.

“I'll be an inside guy, probably playing guard. I'll do a lot of pulling and stuff. That's what I enjoy doing at our school,” he said.

The rest of Stutts’ weekend was much more relaxed following the camp. He attended the Tigers’ cookout Saturday.

“Just really relaxing and getting to hang out with the coaches and getting to know everybody and just getting a good feel for everything,” Stutts said.

That relaxing feeling was exactly why Stutts chose to commit to Auburn so early and why he remains 100 percent sure of his decision.

“It's really a peace that comes over,” Stutts said. “You don't have to worry about anymore recruiting stuff and you just stay connected to your coaches and talk to them and focus on your season and get to work.”
