Shutout payoff

AUBURN | An Auburn shutout win in the Iron Bowl will do more than send the Tigers through to Atlanta.

It'll also eliminate a lot of car payments.

Lynch Toyota of Auburn today begins two interesting promotions tied to what happens on the field Nov. 30. An Auburn victory will yield one Lynch customer $25,000 while a shutout victory will make free every car purchased between now and Friday, Nov. 29.

"We always hear about dealerships doing this for Alabama, so we thought it was about time for someone to do it for Auburn," said Alan Cox, sales manager at Lynch. "We're definitely pro-Auburn but not anti-Alabama. This is all about wanting Auburn to win. One thing we know about this Auburn team is to expect the unexpected. You never know what might happen."

The promotion was months in the making. Cox and general manager Paul Brockwell began discussing the idea in August and contacted an insurance agency to underwrite the promotion itself.

Some have insinuated that Lynch is running the promotion because it doesn't like Auburn's chances against Alabama. Cox said that couldn't be further from the truth -- and that Lynch is simply interested in promoting their Toyota brand and the game itself.

"We do love Auburn," Cox said. "We want to give Auburn fans another reason to cheer for the Tigers on Nov. 30. Do we think Auburn is going to shut out Alabama? We hope so. It could happen and we'd love to see it happen. If people are going to be in the market for a car during the next six months, why not buy now? It might be free."

Lynch sold approximately 35 vehicles during the same time period last year. The dealership hoping visibility from the promotion will bump that figure beyond 60 vehicles this time around.

"We're still being very competitive on price and just want to create a little more excitement around the Iron Bowl," Cox said.

Anyone who test drives or purchases a Lynch vehicle between now and Nov. 29 will be entered into a drawing for the $25,000 prize. The winner will be notified by phone the morning of the Iron Bowl and an Auburn victory will trigger the payout.
