AUBURN | Bailey Sharp knew Auburn was the place he wanted to be.
He knew during his last visit to the Plains, but he didn't commit at the time. Sharp wanted to make his commitment with his entire family present.
So Sharp walked in the office of head coach Gus Malzahn on Saturday morning flanked by 27, yes 27, family members. Sharp then committed to the Tigers and became Auburn's 7th member of the 2015 class.
"I visited Auburn the first time and realized I didn't bring my mom with me," Sharp told 'So I visited again with my mom and we loved it and I wanted to commit, but I didn't want to do it without my family. I told Coach Malzahn I want to commit with my whole family. I want my family to be committed to the Auburn family.
"We walked into his office, shook his hand, took pictures, and I told him I wanted to be an Auburn Tiger."
Sharp, 6-foot-5, 284 pounds, committed to Auburn over his other finalist Clemson. Georgia was also in the mix.
"Auburn is a great location, I'm still close to home," he said. "It's great academic support at the athletic center, great coaching staff -- it was just the perfect fit."
Sharp was recruited to Auburn to play offensive tackle. He feels his decision is final and credits offensive line coach J.B. Grimes for making the decision easy.
"I just wanted to get it over with and start focusing on guys that would help Auburn become a better football program. I didn't want to think about other stuff. There's a small chance that I'd take any official visits other than Auburn," Sharp said.
"On the field, Coach Grimes is serious, you have to be. But watching film, he's very funny. I like his love that combines laughter and seriousness. He's a funny guy."
Sharp now will focus on recruiting.
"I want to get to know other guys," Sharp said. "I know Tyler Queen has been on me. I want to get Kaleb Kim, I know Coach Grimes would be happy with us two. We just have to talk and continue to land talented kids."
