AUBURN | Lee-Montgomery wide receiver Henry Ruggs was scheduled to make a commitment on Aug. 1, but has postponed those plans.

The Rivals250 recruit no longer has a timeline for his announcement.

“I’m not sure when it will be,” Ruggs said.

Ruggs, who is ranked the No. 28 receiver in the 2017 class, will take more visits before making his decision. He made two trips to Auburn in July, including one Saturday for the Tigers War Damn BBQ.

“It was a great visit,” Ruggs said. “We hung around, played some games and ate. I talked to Coach (Gus) Malzahn and he said to give them a chance before I make my decision.”

Ruggs intends to do so. He will return for at least one game in the fall and again for an official visit.

“They’re in my list of top schools,” Ruggs said. “I like the organization and the people. There are good people everywhere, and I also have a teammate down here (Daniel Thomas).”

Ruggs spent time Saturday meeting with Auburn receivers coach Kodi Burns. The first-year coach is one of the reasons Buggs continues to consider Auburn.

“Kodi is a great guy,” Ruggs said. “He’s younger so we connect more on a personal level, and he’s been here so he knows what’s going on.”

Auburn’s offense is another asset for the Tigers.

“They said my highlight tape looks a lot like their offense,” Ruggs said. “They run the quick screens and bubble screens with a couple of deep balls and undercover routes. They said I’d fit into their offense really well.”

Ruggs, who has a 41-inch vertical leap and and a 4.41-second 40-yard dash, is ranked the No. 187 overall player in the class.
