Rivals250 cornerback Kalvaraz Bessent has de-committed from Alabama and committed to Auburn following an unofficial visit to the Plains for the Iron Bowl, AuburnSports.com has learned.
Bessent is the nation's No. 124 overall player after jumping over 100 spots in the latest Rivals100 rankings. He originally committed to Alabama in March.
"I made a decision based upon on me and my dad talking and we discussed a few things. Auburn has been there pretty much from the beginning," Bessent told AuburnSports.com. "They are like a family. Coach Melvin (Smith), the one that will be coaching me, has been down here at least five times to see me. I think I will have a better chance being successful at Auburn and getting some more play time."
Bessent, 6-foot-1 and 188-pounds, joins Rivals250 cornerback Stephen Roberts as recent flips from the Crimson Tide.
The Camden County (Ga.) product had not visited Alabama since the summer, yet found time to visit Auburn last weekend for the Iron Bowl with his father. When the Tigers won in dramatic fashion, Bessent could be seen storming the field.
Tigers' assistants Dameyune Craig and Melvin Smith recruited Bessent to Auburn.
Bessent said spurning Alabama in favor of the Tigers wasn't a decision he made hastily.
"It wasn't a very easy transition, but I just had to make a choice that I thought and that my parents thought wast the best for me."
Bessent is Auburn's 19th overall commitment and sixth Rivals250 commitment. Auburn has three five-star commitments and eight four-star commitments. Bessent also joins fellow Auburn commits Racean Thomas, Tre Williams and Roberts as Under Armour All-Americans.
