AUBURN | Football wasn't the only sport at Auburn with a big recruiting Saturday.
Bruce Pearl and staff played host to a half-dozen unofficial visitors and one official visitor.
The majority of the group was 2017 prospects, including four of the state's top sophomores, one of whom is ranked as the nation's No. 12 overall recruit.
The recruits were on campus to attend Auburn's final home game of the season, a game the Tigers lost to Georgia, 64-61.
Here is what the four 2017 recruits on unofficial visits had to say about their day in Auburn...
Birmingham, Ala. (Spain Park)
On his visit…
"It was good. I've been down here a lot, but it's always good to come back. It was a good game. The crowd was really good."
On the future at Auburn under Pearl…
"It's bright. Coach Pearl recruited really well this year, and I feel like he showed the country that Auburn will be back."
On his recruitment…
"I'm thinking about making a decision next summer to get it over with, but that could change."
On the contenders…
"Duke, North Carolina, Florida, Auburn and Alabama are in there. I was supposed to go to Duke earlier, but I wasn't able to go."
On Auburn…
"I look at it from a standpoint of, if I wasn't playing basketball I'd come here just to go to school. It just has that home vibe that I like because I've practically been raised around this school."
Tyrone, Ga. (Sandy Creek)
On his visit…
"I got here a little before the game and went to the locker room. I got to talk to Coach Pearl and meet a few of the players. I had a good time. I really like it at Auburn. It's a very nice school."
On his recruitment…
"Auburn has offered. Winthrop has offered, too, and I have interest from Kansas, Ohio State, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Tennessee and a lot of others. I'm not in any hurry. I'm going to wait before making a commitment."
Where Auburn stands…
"They are recruiting me the hardest, and they are my favorite right now, my top school. I like it at Auburn. I like the coaches. Coach Pearl is a great coach. (Chuck) Person is a great coach. I talk to Coach Person a lot. I like the way Auburn plays, and I like everything about the school."
(NR) PF Garrison Brooks - 2017
Auburn, Ala. (Auburn)
On his visit…
"I liked the game a lot. Even though Auburn lost, it was still a good game and a great atmosphere. The fans were great."
On Bruce Pearl…
"He's a great person and a great coach. You can see his influence from watching how hard they play. He just needs a few more players. With the recruiting class he had this year, I think he will have Auburn in the (NCAA) Tournament next year."
Where Auburn stands…
"They are up there in my top group. Mississippi State, Auburn, Alabama and UAB are my top schools right now."
(NR) PF D.J. Heath - 2017
Ft. McClellan, Ala. (Sacred Heart Catholic)
On his visit…
"Everything went great. I really like the atmosphere and Coach Pearl's intensity. He's my type of coach. I like coaches like that."
On his recruitment…
"I don't have any offers, but a lot of schools are showing interest like Auburn, North Carolina, Alabama, UAB, LSU, Oklahoma State…a lot of them. If Auburn were to offer, that would be big. I'm an in-state kid so that would mean a lot to me."
On Auburn…
"I like Coach Pearl. I like his intensity. He's a player's coach and that's what I like. I'll be back for sure. I don't know when, but I'll be back."
On the other 2017 in-state recruits…
"We are all very close. Me, Jamal Johnson, Alex Reese, Austin (Wiley), JP (John Petty) … we are all real close. It would be nice (if we all went to the same school)."
