Cornerback
Four-star cornerback Javarius Davis entered January leaning towards signing with Georgia, Louisville or in-state Florida.
He exited it committed to Auburn, albeit silently.
Davis visited the Plains on Jan. 16-18, Louisville the following weekend and Florida the final one before Signing Day. He announced on Signing Day that he would be a Tiger, but he already had informed Will Muschamp, the man he credits with getting him to Auburn, days earlier.
Here's the Signee Profile on Davis:
AUBURN RECRUITED YOU EARLY, BUT YOUR INTEREST LEVEL WASN'T HIGH UNTIL JANUARY. WHEN AND WHY DID THE CHANGE OCCUR? My feelings changed the first day Coach Muschamp got the job. The first day he was at Auburn he started recruiting me there and I knew I would at least be taking a visit there.
YOU VISITED JAN. 16-18, BUT WHEN DID YOU FIRST REALIZE AUBURN WAS WHERE YOU WANTED TO SIGN? The first time I thought Auburn might be the place for me was when I went on my visit. I got there and met all of the coaches and we went into the meeting room and went over how I would fit in and how I had the chance for early playing time. They also told me they would teach me how to be a great player and also a great person.
I saw the campus, the dorms, the stadium and I loved everything about that visit. The more they talked and the more I was there the more I started to like it. I kind of knew that's where I wanted to go, but after the visit I still wanted to take my other visits (Louisville and Florida) just to see, just to make sure Auburn was the best school.
WHEN DID YOU INFORM AUBURN OF YOUR COMMITMENT? A week before Signing Day. Coach Muschamp came down to the school and we went into the office and I told him I was coming to Auburn, but that I wanted to wait and announce it. I visited Florida after that, but I didn't really like it that much. I really didn't know their new coaching staff or what they're about.
WHAT DID YOUR FAMILY THINK OF YOUR DECISION TO SIGN WITH AUBURN? They loved it. They wanted me to sign with Auburn because of Coach Muschamp. My mom always sat down with all of the coaches when they came to visit, and of all the coaches she talked to, Coach Muschamp made her feel like Auburn was the right school.
MUSCHAMP PLAYED THE MOST PIVOTAL ROLE IN YOUR RECRUITMENT. TALK ABOUT YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM AND WHY HE WAS SUCH A FACTOR. Coach Muschamp had recruited me hard when he was at Florida, and the day he got fired he told me he was going to get another job and I was going to be the first person he talked to. Ever since then he always stayed on me about my schoolwork, and he told me about Auburn, about how they are a family and will treat me right and coach me right. He told me they would help mold me into a man.
WHICH SCHOOL FINISHED NO. 2? Louisville and Florida were my other two (finalists), but I would probably say Louisville.
WAS THERE A SIGNEE YOU WERE SURPRISED AUBURN LANDED IN THE 2015 CLASS? Not really. I knew Ryan Davis was going and I knew Byron Cowart and Jeff Holland were going. I wasn't surprised by anyone. I pretty much knew about everyone.
WHAT IS YOUR SIGNING CLASS CAPABLE OF ACCOMPLISHING AT AUBURN? National championships. Plural.
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THIS SEASON? I want to work hard, be a leader even though I'll be a freshman, and make big plays. I want to listen and learn. I want to help in any way I can.
WHEN WILL YOU ARRIVE IN AUBURN? I'll be there May 24, and I think I'll be rooming with Jordan Colbert.
