Prankster high on AU

AUBURN | Archer (Lawrenceville, Ga.) linebacker Donta Evans didn't know what to expect from Auburn's Big Cat event on Saturday, but he knew he wanted to attend.

"I'm so glad I did," Evans said. "It was an amazing day, by far the best recruiting visit that I've been on."

Evans and his uncle, Leon Felder, made the trip to Auburn in the morning and stayed throughout the day.

"We did a lot of things outside of football," Evans said. "We played a lot of games, got to see the coaches and what kind of people they are outside of football. Coach (Lance) Thompson and Coach (Will) Muschamp are great guys. So is Coach (Gus) Malzahn. Coach Malzahn hung out with the players all day long."

Evans wasn't expecting that from the head coach.

"Most of the time you don't see that," Evans said. "Most of the time the head coaches are surrounded by security guards and you can't touch them, you can't talk to them, no pictures or anything. But Coach Malzahn was with us all day. It was really fun."

Evans took advantage of the laid-back atmosphere of Big Cat. The linebacker pranked Malzahn, Muschamp and Thompson, asking them to take a "selfie" picture, but instead recording 10-second video clips.

"We all had a lot of fun," Evans said. "But I had to get them. I love those guys and we were having so much fun. It was just a great visit, an amazing day."

Evans, 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, left his visit the same way he entered.

"I'm still very high on Auburn," Evans said. "I love the family atmosphere, the campus and the tradition. I really enjoy everything at Auburn."

Evans has a few more visits he wants to take before making a commitment, which could come as early as late June.

"I want to get it out of the way before the season, before fall camp," he said. "Maybe about another month and I'll be ready."
