AUBURN | Auburn received a signed National Letter of Intent from Horace Spencer on Wednesday, the first day of the basketball signing period.
"It's done," Spencer said. "It's official. I'm an Auburn Tiger."
Spencer, a Rivals150 recruit who spent the past two seasons at Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nev., is the sixth player in the Tigers' 2015 class and the highest-ranked of the group at No. 69 overall. In 30 games last season at Findlay Prep, Spencer averaged 10.8 points, 9.7 rebounds and three blocks per game.
"We are very excited about Horace Spencer," Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said. "He brings toughness, athleticism and the ability to defend and rebound at a very high level. Horace is an outstanding young man who has terrific upside."
Spencer, 6-foot-8 and 215 pounds, joins power forward Danjel Purifoy, shooting guards T.J. Dunans and Bryce Brown, point guard New Williams and center Trayvon Reed in Auburn's class.
Rivals.com ranks the group the No. 10 class in the country and No. 2 in the SEC (Texas A&M). The class is the highest-ranked Auburn has signed in the Rivals.com era (2002-).
"This is a very complete class that will be the foundation for the future of Auburn basketball," Pearl said.
