It didn't help with his goal of trimming his list to five.
"It threw a wrench into things," Leavitt said. "Now I'm back up to eight and Nebraska has been in contact with me as well. I've been trying for two weeks to figure out the five schools I want to take official visits to, but it's tough for me."
Leavitt, 6-foot-6 and 305 pounds, isn't complaining. More options and more offers aren't bad.
"It throws a wrench, but it's not a bad wrench," he said. "I'm very blessed and very grateful for the opportunities."
Leavitt lists his top eight as Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Auburn, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, West Virginia and Oklahoma State. Nebraska could make it nine.
Auburn got into the mix on Wednesday when Leavitt spoke with Tigers offensive line coach J.B. Grimes.
"We talked for quite a bit and then he told me that I had an offer to play at Auburn," Leavitt said. "I knew they had a lot of interest. I was in contact with Coach (Rhett) Lashlee for a few weeks, but I wasn't expecting it right then and there from Coach Grimes."
Leavitt hasn't met Grimes, but liked what he heard from Auburn's third-year coach.
"He seemed like a straight shooter," Leavitt said. "That's something you look for when you're getting recruited. If you think someone is feeding you a bunch of crap, then you should expect to get crap. I didn't get that from Coach Grimes. He told it to me straight.
"I also like that he coached up one of my favorite college offensive lineman to watch, which was (former Auburn tackle) Greg Robinson. That is pretty awesome to me, all of it was. Needless to say, I was very excited to get the offer from Auburn."
Leavitt, originally from Ohio, signed out of high school with Ohio University, but ultimately went to Hutchinson instead. He's projected to graduate in December with three years to play two.
He only has to figure out where he'll enroll next.
"I need a little more time before I'll know which schools I'll take visits to," Leavitt said. "I want to make sure I make the right decision."
Rivals.com ranks Leavitt a four-star recruit.
