AUBURN, Ala. | Rivals250 cornerback John Broussard has a short 40-minute drive to Auburn from his home in Phenix City, and the standout from Central High plans to take advantage of it this fall.
"I'll be back for some practices, and I'm going to a couple of games," Broussard said. "It's good to be close so I can come watch practices, hang out with the coaches and know what I'm getting into before I get here."
Broussard, ranked the No. 15 cornerback in 2016, committed to Auburn in May. He's been back on campus three times since, including last Thursday for camp and again Saturday for the recruit cookout.
Broussard was the top cornerback at Auburn's camp. He won 4-of-6 reps in 1-on-1s against receivers with Tigers secondary coach Travaris Robinson looking on.
"It was real fun getting to work out with Coach T-Rob and Coach (Will) Muschamp," Broussard said. "They said I did great. They said I did a really good job at using my size."
The 5-foot-11, 165-pound senior returned two days later for the cookout. He had two teammates with him: Florida State tight end commit Jamal Couch and 2017 Rivals100 linebacker Markail Benton.
"That was a lot of fun," Broussard said. "I also talked to (AU LB commit) Tre Threat a lot. We had a good time."
Broussard left the cookout Saturday still solid in his commitment, but will take other visits. His first trip will be to Baton Rouge, La. on Sept. 19. That's the day Auburn plays at LSU. Visits to other schools remain in play.
"I plan on taking my official visits, but I'm not really sure which schools," Broussard said. "But I'm solid to Auburn. I feel great about Auburn."
Rivals ranks Broussard the No. 182 overall player in 2016, and the No. 6 player from Alabama. According to Broussard's Twitter account on Monday, he plans to enroll at Auburn in January.
