Massive OT commits to Auburn

A massive offensive tackle from Tennessee has committed to Auburn.

J’Marion Gooch, who is 6-foot-8 and 340 pounds, informed Gus Malzahn of his decision Thursday evening.

“I talked to Coach Malzahn and told him I’m committed,” Gooch said. “He was happy. Coach Malzahn said he’s happy to have me join the family.”

Gooch, from King’s Academy in Seymour, visited Auburn last summer and remembers the feeling he had while on campus.

“It feels like home,” Gooch said. “It feels like the right place for me in my heart. I’m excited to be committed.”

Gooch has developed a strong bond with new offensive line coach Jack Bicknell, as well as offensive coordinator Chad Morris and Malzahn.

“I talk to all of them,” Gooch said. “I like the coaches. I like ‘Coach B’ (Bicknell). He likes me because I can play tackle or anywhere else on the line.”

Gooch is the fourth commitment in Auburn’s class and first offensive lineman. He joined running back Armoni Goodwin, defensive back Phillip O’Brien and defensive tackle Lee Hunter in Auburn’s 2021 class.
