Johnson to start this weekend

AUBURN | Senior quarterback Jeremy Johnson will start Auburn's game against Alabama A&M this weekend, taking over for injured starter Sean White.

Coach Gus Malzahn made the announcement during his weekly radio program.

"He's extremely excited, a chance to start his last home game," Malzahn said. "He's had a good week of practice -- and his teammates are excited for him. I think he'll play very well."

Johnson played 24 snaps during the Tigers' season-opening loss to Clemson, but was demoted to the third-team offense after that. He hasn't played a single snap at quarterback since then.

John Franklin III, a junior, has spent the past eight weeks as Auburn's No. 2 quarterback. Malzahn didn't explain why or how Johnson leap-frogged Franklin, but the game will be Auburn's final home date of the season. That means it'll be Johnson's final home appearance of his college career.
