Jackson impresses at Auburn camp
AUBURN | To say Shedrick Jackson had a good performance at Auburn’s half-day camp on Saturday would be an understatement.
The Hoover wideout was clearly the top player in attendance, won every rep in 1-on-1s versus the camp’s top cornerbacks, and posted numbers one would expect from one of the top receivers in the 2018 class.
“I felt like I went out and did some good stuff,” Jackson said. “I wanted to go out, get better and compete.”
And he did.
Jackson, before dominating in the 1-on-1s, ran a hand-timed 4.37-second 40-yard dash, had a broad jump of 10 feet 11 inches and a 40-inch vertical leap.
“That made me feel good, feel confident,” Jackson said. “It gave me some momentum.”
Jackson worked during the camp with Auburn wide receivers coach Kodi Burns, which the receiver hadn’t done prior to Saturday. Sure, Jackson, the nephew of former Auburn great Bo Jackson, has attended numerous practices at Auburn where he's watched Burns coach.
“But it was the first time I got to work with him,” Jackson said. “I’d never been to a camp before, so it was good to get some work with him, to see what it’s like, what his tempo is like and how he coaches on the field.”
Jackson enjoyed the experience.
“It was great,” Jackson said. “Until you get on the field with him and get input from him, you don’t really know. And that’s what it’s all about. It was great learning from him.”
Jackson has the opportunity to learn from Burns more in the future. Auburn offered Jackson a scholarship in the spring, and has been a favorite of his since.
Auburn remains a top choice for Jackson, who could announce a commitment soon. He plans to release a video of his decision possibly within the next week, although Jackson doesn’t list a leader among his five favorites: Auburn, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, Missouri and Memphis.
Rivals ranks Jackson, who is listed at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, the No. 3 wide receiver in Alabama behind five-star Justyn Ross of Central-Phenix City and four-star Seth Williams of Bryant in Cottondale.
