Auburn junior running back Kenny Irons has been named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Irons totaled career highs of 182 yards rushing on 33 carries during Auburn's 34-17 win last Saturday at Arkansas. Irons, who ran for 126 yards on 23 attempts in the second half alone, posted the highest single-game rushing total in the SEC this season.
Irons now has three 100-yard rushing performances in his last three games. He had 147 yards (the third-highest mark in the SEC this season) and two scores Sept. 17 vs. Ball State, and ran for 111 yards and a touchdown Sept. 24 vs. Western Kentucky.
Irons became the first Auburn back to rush for 150 or more yards in a game since Carnell Williams tallied 204 yards against Alabama in 2003.
Auburn has now had at least one player recognized in the league's weekly honors after each of its last five games. Will Herring was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week after Auburn's 28-0 victory over Mississippi State Sept. 10, Brad Lester earned Freshman of the Week honors for his performance in the Tigers' 63-3 win over Ball State, Blake Field was the Freshman of the Week after Auburn beat Western Kentucky 37-14, and after Auburn thumped South Carolina 48-7 Oct. 1, Travis Williams was named Defensive Player of the Week and Lester repeated as Freshman of the Week.
Auburn (5-1, 3-0 SEC) will carry a five-game winning streak into Saturday's game at No. 7 LSU (4-1, 3-1). The game, which kicks off at 6:45 p.m., will be televised by ESPN.
