AUBURN | First it was a couple of nagging injuries that Chad Baker-Mazara has played through over the last few weeks. Then earlier this week, he came down with an illness.

Neither could slow him down in Wednesday night’s 106-76 win over Ole Miss.

Baker-Mazara scored a season-high 22 points along with three rebounds, one assist, one steal and two blocked shots in 29 minutes.

“Wasn’t able to practice yesterday because he had a stomach virus,” said AU coach Bruce Pearl after the game. “And he’s on IV’s last night and this morning. And battled back and played great.”

Baker-Mazara also shot 8 of 12 from the floor including 4 of 5 3-pointers against the Rebels. He’s been a key playmaker for No. 1 Auburn, which improved to 26-2 and 14-1 in the SEC.

The senior is second on the team averaging 12.7 points and leads AU averaging 1.2 steals per game. He’s also third in assists (71), fourth in 3-pointers made (113) and blocks (16), and fifth in rebounds (95).

His ability to make 3-pointers or drive inside for a pull-up jumper or floater or finish at the rim, opens up the offense for the rest of AU’s players.

“He's plus-28 in 30 minutes,” said senior All-American Johni Broome. “For me, being an inside-out player, he opens the court up for me. They can't double. But, yeah, 4-5 from 3 is elite.”

Auburn returns to action at No. 17 Kentucky Saturday. Tip-off at Rupp Arena is scheduled for noon CT on ABC.
