Groves up for another national award

Auburn senior defensive end Quentin Groves has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2007 Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year award, it was announced Tuesday by the Ted Hendricks Foundation.
Groves is one of 27 players on the watch list, which includes four players from the Southeastern Conference.

The Greenville, Miss., native, posted a team-leading 9.5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss in 2006. He finished with 37 tackles and earned Coaches and Associated Press All-SEC First Team honors and was a Rivals.com Third-Team All-American.
Groves, who is three sacks away from tying Auburn's career record of 26, took home the SEC's Defensive Player of the Week award after finishing with three sacks and two quarterback hurries in the Tigers' 27-17 win over Florida on Oct. 14.
He followed that up with Defensive Lineman of the Week honors after two first-half sacks and subsequent forced fumbles in Auburn's 22-15 defeat at Alabama to end the regular season.
Groves has now been named to three preseason watch lists for the 2007 season. On June 12, he was named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch list. He followed that up two weeks later, on June 25, by being named to the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list.
Semifinalists for the Hendricks Award will be announced in early November. Up to five finalists will be announced Nov. 26, with the announcement of the winner coming Dec. 6. The formal presentation will be made in March 2008 at the Hendricks Award Gala.
Past winners of the award include Arizona State's Terrell Suggs, Georgia's David Pollack, Elvis Dumervil of Louisville and Michigan's LaMarr Woodley.
