AUBURN | One of the top defensive tackle prospects was in Auburn on Friday, and already plans to be back in July.
Woodbridge (Va.) Senior four-star Kyree Campbell made his first trip to Auburn with his high school coach and receiver teammate Kalel Grant. The two recruits were in town for Auburn's Senior Tiger Camp.
"The experience was great," Campbell said. "They showed us around the campus and the academic building. The football facilities are great. We also got to sit down and talk to the coaches."
Campbell, ranked the No. 22 defensive tackle, met with defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, defensive line coach Rodney Garner and area recruiter/linebackers coach Lance Thompson, who Campbell is very familiar with.
"My relationships are building with the other coaches, but I've very close to Coach Thompson. I've known him for four years," Campbell said of the longtime recruiter of the state of Virginia. "Him and the other coaches told me everything I need to know. They filled in everything so there was no need for questions."
The information included the opportunity for early playing time.
"They said they need big guys and I fit that role," Campbell said. "They need a big d-end that can play nose tackle and tackle. They have opportunity for early playing time and that's big. That's very big to me."
Campbell, 6-foot-5 and 295 pounds, plans to return to Auburn in July and bring his mother with him. He is set to narrow his long list of offers on Aug. 3, and expects Auburn to be on it.
"It boosted my thought process a lot," Campbell said. "Auburn stands pretty high. This place is great. I don't have my top out, yet, but it's coming. Auburn will definitely be on my list."
