It's November, which means high school football playoffs are about to commence. As teams gear up for a chance to make a run at a state title, here's how some of Auburn's commits performed last week, with one etching their name into the record books.
McPherson etched his way into the Alabama high school football record books on Friday. The No. 1-rated kicker in the nation nailed a 61-yard field goal in Fort Payne’s 32-7 victory over North Jackson.
That field goal set the record for longest made field goal in Alabama high school history from snap and hold. The historic kick surpassed the previous record by one yard, which was set by a familiar face to McPherson: his brother, Evan, who currently kicks in the NFL for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Benedictine dominated Islands High School, with a 58-13 victory to finish out the season with an 8-2 record. Geriner completed 58% of his passes, going 15-for-26 for 190 yards passing with three passing touchdowns. He also added a rushing touchdown in the win.
Once again, Alston was his teams leader in yards rushing, accounting for nearly half of the teams total yards rushing. Alston recorded 111 yards rushing on six carries, scoring two touchdown's in Fairfield Prep's 49-7 win over Tri-Cities.
Albert played a key role on offense and special teams in Fairfield’s 34-19 win over Central. He had four receptions for 51 yards receiving on the offensive side of the ball.
His big moment in the game was an 84-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Through nine games, he’s put together quite the season.
Fair recorded one catch for nine yards in Rockwall-Heath’s 49-27 win over Tyler Legacy. The catch pushed Fair over the 700 yards receiving mark on the season, though. He needs just one more touchdown to set the school record for receiving touchdowns.
Bellevue West won by a large margin in its first round of the Nebraska Class A Playoffs, with a 63-26 victory over Papillion-LaVista. Riley-Ducker had three receptions for 12 yards receiving and added a touchdown in the win.
The stat sheet had Gordon's name in several categories last week against IMG Academy. Gordon had seven tackles, 1.5 sacks, three tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a touchdown reception.
In a shutout win over Discovery, Wooden recorded three tackles in the 36-0 victory.
Off Week: Omari Kelly and Caden Story were both on bye weeks. Dual-sport athlete Tre Donaldson did not play as Florida State University High School won its game by forfeit.
