Williams trusted the new Auburn coaching staff and wanted to headline the class. Roberts was less sure and initially committed to Alabama, wanting to see how Auburn's season would unfold.
Following Auburn's SEC Championship win and berth in the BCS National Championship, both are ecstatic about their decisions.
"People saw that I believed and put my trust in Auburn," Williams told AuburnSports.com. "All I say is Auburn's there, we're going to continue the tradition. We don't have to talk about shocking the world anymore, they already did that, we just have to keep it going.
"It's God's blessing, he told me from day one that Auburn's the place I needed to be. It felt like a family from day one. I prayed about it and he sent me there for a reason. Auburn put on a show and I can put on a show and say I made the best decision of my life, and Alabama fans get at me."
Roberts took more convincing.
"In the spring, knowing they were building, I wanted to sit back and see," Roberts said. "What they did this year, I had a great choice in Auburn. I'm glad to be a part of it and it means a lot to be a part of a great program."

Williams and Roberts both attended Auburn's home wins over Georgia and Alabama. It was an experience Roberts will never forget.
"It felt good to cheer for the right team," Roberts said. "I tried to catch Rashaan (Evans) after the Alabama game running onto the field, but I couldn't catch him. I felt like I was a part of the team though. They have one more game to go before they win it all. I hope they win it."
Both Williams and Roberts, in addition to Jakell Mitchell, Rashaan Evans and Kamryn Pettway, visited the Auburn campus on Sunday. They visited with the Auburn coaching staff after the BCS Standings were announced.
"We spent time with the coaches. The team just watched the announcement, clapped and went out. They are humble and they are down to business," said Williams.
This week, Roberts and Williams will compete in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic. Roberts' focus will be on man-to-man coverage and improving his "press" technique. Williams simply wants to play "mean" - and smart.
"You have to be mean around these boys. You have to play mean and smart, it's time to be man and physical," Williams said.
But both will recruit - with an eye on the uncommitted Evans.
"I'm going to try and work on Rashaan. He'd make a big impact, he's quick and smart," Roberts said.
