AUBURN, Ala. | Landon Rice has been committed to Auburn for more than 20 months. He's made too many trips to Auburn to count.
Even so, this weekend's trip for a cookout provided a new experience for the standout tight end from Calhoun (Ga.) High.
"This was my first time staying in the dorms and there were a lot of guys staying with me," Rice said. "I'm meshing good with (2017 OL commitment) Calvin (Ashley). We hung out a lot (Friday) night and even (Saturday)."
Rice also showed off some of his angling skills.
"Everybody said they couldn't catch any fish and I caught like three on four casts," he said.
Rice, 6-foot-6 and 245 pounds, spent time talking to a lot of the Tigers' top targets including Rivals250 linebacker Elysee Mbem-bosse and 2017 Rivals250 offensive tackle Austin Troxell.
"It was good to talk to all them," Rice said. "There were a lot of big-time targets down here. Hopefully, we can get them all down here together so it will be a special program."
Auburn picked up two commitments Saturday in wide receiver Marquis McClain and 2017 Rivals250 running back Alaric Williams.
"I feel good about our recruiting class," Rice said. "We're starting to reel in some guys and it's just a bright future for Auburn. I'm glad I'm going to be a part of it. I just can't wait to get down here."
A December graduate, Rice plans to enroll at Auburn in January.
"I'm looking forward to our season at Calhoun," he said. "We're going to try and run the table again. Once the season is over, I'm all Auburn and I can't wait to get down here and start working."
