AUBURN | Among the 30-plus recruits in Auburn on Saturday for Big Cat were three of the Tigers' commitments.
Tight end Landon Rice, cornerback John Broussard and linebacker Tre Threat all made the trip to the Plains to participate in the seventh-annual Big Cat Weekend.
Here is what the three had to say about their day at Big Cat...
Phenix City, Ala. (Central)
On his visit…
"I had a great time. It was a lot of fun just playing around. I didn't really know what to expect, but I had a great time with all the recruits and coaches. All of the coaches are really cool. They all have a lot of fun, but they also get the work done."
On it being his first visit back since his commitment…
"I felt more relaxed, more relieved and more comfortable. I hung out a lot with Tre Threat, who just committed, too. That was my first time really talking to him. We had a good time, and I think Big Cat really helped us with a lot of guys."
Spanish Fort, Ala. (Spanish Fort)
On his visit…
"It was great. I came up on Friday night with my mom and my dad. We got up Saturday and went to Big Cat, but I didn't have any idea what to expect. I had heard a lot of different things, but I knew they changed it up every year so I didn't know what to expect.
"It was just much more laid-back and relaxed than a normal visit. It was a lot of fun and much better than a typical recruiting visit. It was like we were all there hanging out with friends."
If he thinks Big Cat helped with other recruits…
"It helped a lot. It was a big-time, very major recruiting event for Auburn. Everybody was having a blast. Everybody became friends with everybody. You got to meet people that you knew of, had heard of, but would never have had the chance to meet without Big Cat. I hung out and built great relationships with Nate Craig-Myers and John Broussard."
Calhoun, Ga. (Calhoun)
On the visit…
"It went great. Everybody had a great time just acting like a bunch of kids. All of the coaches interacted with us very well, and I knew a lot of the recruits so it was good to reconnect with them and try to get them to Auburn.
"It was a great day, and I feel like everyone enjoyed themselves. Nobody had a bad time. Having that many top prospects at one event, all at the same place at the same time, is pretty special. And it's even more special that it was at Auburn."
On the effects of Big Cat…
"I think it helped Auburn a lot. It was big to get guys like Kyle Davis and Nate Craig-Myers on campus again. That shows that Auburn is still on their lists. Mecole Hardman is another one.
"There were also a lot of top targets there for UGA, and I feel like that is the biggest battle for us right now. We have a great 2016 class in the state of Georgia and I feel like it would be huge to sway some of those kids away from UGA. I think this weekend helped out a lot with that."
