Auburn scored 16-straight points that bridged the first and second quarters to take a 42-28 lead with 7:45 left in the second quarter.
Twelve seconds later, DeWayne Reed went out of the game injuring his right foot and did not return. He will not play the rest of the trip.
The Tigers outscored the Pioneros 29-8 in the second quarter to take a 61-36 halftime lead.
"Defensively in the second quarter, we were pretty good," said Auburn head coach Jeff Lebo. "We only gave up eight points in that quarter. We fouled a little bit too much and put them om the foul line.
"For the most part, we were unselfish and moved the basketball. We made the extra pass, and that was encouraging to see."
Auburn led 78-60 after three quarters, but the Pioneros cut the lead to 13. That is when Barrett took over.
Barrett scored 14-straight points and 18 of 21 to end the game.
"My teammates were getting me open, and I was able to make the shots. After the second one went in, the hoop looked like a real big sombrero."
Quantez Robertson had nine points, Josh Dollard 6 and Reed 4 while Matt Heramb and Drew Smith had 2 apiece.
The Tigers return to action Friday at 7:30 pm Central against the same team.
