Auburn 'tied at the top' for in-state DE after Big Cat

AUBURN | Andres Fox is preparing to make a commitment this summer.

The defensive end from Mobile Christian will choose one of three schools before the fall, he said Saturday following a visit to Auburn.

“Right before the season,” Fox said.

Fox intends to visit both LSU and Alabama before he announces his choice. His visit to Auburn for Big Cat was enough to solidify the Tigers at the top of his list.

“It went great,” Fox said. “It put them really high, tied for No. 1.”

Fox declined to say which school is tied with Auburn for No. 1 on his list, but did say LSU is recruiting him the hardest. He plans to visit Alabama June 17. A return trip to Auburn could come later in the summer, but the trip Saturday had plenty of highs.

“The coaches, how they uncovered and showed their real selfs. That was pretty cool,” Fox said. “Seeing Coach (Herb) Hand freestyle (rap), and Coach (Rodney) Garner started singing and I really liked it. It was pretty fun hanging out with him.”

Fox also competed in the watermelon-eating contest and scavenger hunt. Several Auburn players also attended the festivities, which included a barbecue.

“I like how they really care about their players,” Fox said.

Rivals ranks Fox, who is 6-foot-4 and weighs 240 pounds, the No. 19 weakside defensive end in the 2018 class and No. 11 overall player in Alabama.
