Auburn shutout in game one

Alex Lange was too much for No. 14 Auburn Thursday night.

Lange allowed just five hits to lead No. 11 LSU to a 4-0 win at Alex Box Stadium. Auburn, which has lost five-straight games, falls to 32-19 overall and 14-11 in the SEC.

“(Lange) pitched well, give him a lot of credit. And no walks, I thought that was huge,” Auburn coach Butch Thompson said. “We never really got to him.”

Lange (6-5) needed just 118 pitches to throw his third complete game of the season. He struck out nine and didn’t issue a walk. LSU improves to 33-17 and 16-9 in the conference.

LSU jumped on Auburn starter Andrew Mitchell for four runs on three hits and five walks in 2.1 innings. The New Orleans native, who was at LSU in 2014, falls to 5-3 on the season in his second SEC start.

Gabe Klobosits and Dylan Ingram were the lone bright spots for Auburn. Klobosits held LSU to three hits in 5.2 innings out of the bullpen. He struck out four and issued one walk.

Ingram had three of Auburn’s five hits.

“Klobosits saved our bullpen,” Thompson said. “The best outing of the year by far for him. He just put a little pause in his game and stayed out there for the entire ballgame.

“The positive is still having (Keegan) Thompson and (Casey) Mize in the next two starts trying to get a win on the road.”

The series continues Friday at 7 p.m. CT on SECN+ and WatchESPN and Saturday at noon on the SEC Network.
