Auburn moves into top 3 for CB

Godby (Tallahassee, Fla.) cornerback T.J. Davis was on Auburn's campus Monday for an unofficial visit.

The 6-foot, 175-pound Davis, who claims 33 offers including one from the Tigers, said the visit went good. It must have. He left the Plains with the Tigers among his top three choices and is already planning to return.

"I saw the great facilities. They took me to the stadium and I looked at it for a while, and they also showed me the academics, the communication department," said Davis. "I liked everything. It was my second or third time to visit Auburn and every time I visit it seems more and more like home."

And the Tigers continue to move higher and higher on his list of favorites.

"Auburn has moved up my list big time," he said. "They are definitely in my top five. Definitely. Ohio State and Florida State are in there, too. The two other (spots in my top five) are question marks, but Auburn, Ohio State and Florida State would be my top three (in no order)."

Davis said the only thing missing from experiences in Auburn is being in the crowd for a game inside Jordan-Hare Stadium, but he is planning to check that off the list in the fall.

"I want to go to a game at Auburn. I want to see the eagle fly," he said. "I want to take at least two official visits before making my decision and I'm taking one to Auburn most definitely."

Davis hasn't set a date for an official visit to Auburn, but said he would like to make it the weekend of Nov. 26. That's when the Tigers' in-state rival Alabama comes to town.

"That will probably be (when I take the visit)," said Davis. "(Auburn-Alabama) is big time."

Davis is being recruited by Auburn to play cornerback. He said it's a position the Tigers are lacking in depth, something else that works in Auburn's favor.

"Depth chart is a big thing," he said. "I would like to come in as a freshman and make an immediate impact. I would like to help win the national championship again."

During his visit Monday, Davis spent time with Auburn running back Onterrio McCalebb, one of several Floridians on the Tigers' roster. McCalebb was a standout at Fort Meade High in southern Florida before signing with Auburn in 2008.

"He's from Florida and you have to know the Florida players. You have to know your history," Davis said. "He gives me the other side of the story. The coaches are going to tell you, but you don't really know until you get to talk to the players that are around every day. I've gotten pretty close with him."

In addition to Auburn, Davis claims scholarship offers from Florida State, Florida, Miami, Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, LSU, South Carolina, Illinois, Texas Tech, Ole Miss and Arkansas, among others. Davis said he plans to visit Clemson July 14. He also is scheduled to visit Miami and Oregon this summer.

"I would like to narrow my options to five before the end of the summer," he said.

And he expects Auburn to be one of them.

"Auburn just feels like home," said Davis. "I've been there so much it just feels like home. They have a great coaching staff. It's like a family."
