Auburn leads for 4-star athlete, lifelong fan

AUBURN | Auburn leads for four-star athlete Matthew Hill, albeit by default.

“Auburn is my leader just because I grew up an Auburn fan,” Hill said. “I’m very comfortable at Auburn. I grew up an Auburn fan so I’ve been comfortable since I was a little kid.”

Hill, from Brookwood High in Snellville, Ga., became even more comfortable at Auburn last weekend as one of 33 recruits at the Tigers’ Big Cat event. The day consisted of games, contests, a scavenger hunt and a rap battle, which was won by offensive line coach Herb Hand.

“I got to see the other side of the coaches,” Hill said. “Everything is usually about business, but we got to see their friendly side and how they are every day. The scavenger hunt was fun.”

Hill spent the majority of the visit with Auburn wide receivers coach Kodi Burns and other wide receiver recruits in attendance. He also spoke with Rivals100 offensive guard Trey Hill and Rivals100 athlete Kyler McMichael, both of whom is close friends with Matthew Hill.

Matthew Hill considered committing to Auburn during the day, but decided to hold off until after he takes more visits.

“Definitely sometime during the summer, maybe within the next month or month-and-a-half,” Hill said of a commitment. “There are a couple of schools I want to visit.”

Of the many offers he has, Hill said Auburn, South Carolina and Alabama are recruiting him the hardest. He plans to visit Alabama on June 17.

“Those are really the only schools I’m considering because they’re coming at me hard,” Hill said. “Auburn has always been in the top 1, 2, 3 spots, because I’ve known Auburn and it’s like home now.”

And his leader.

Rivals ranks Hill, who stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 185 pounds, the No. 22 athlete in the 2018 class and No. 32 player from Georgia.
