AU cruises past FAMU 11-3

AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn scored seven times in the first inning and never looked back in claiming an 11-3 win over Florida A&M in non-conference baseball action on Monday night. The win improved Auburn's record to 29-23 while Florida A&M fell to 7-45.

"This was a good win for us. It was important, with this many games (in the final week), for us to have Trey (Cochran-Gill) go deep in the game and I thought he was outstanding," Auburn Head Coach John Pawlowski said. "Patrick Savage jumped out and hit a home run and made some nice plays over at first. We took care of business today. At this point in the season that's the bottom line."

Patrick Savage finished the game 2-for-3 with a double and a three-run home run, driving in four RBIs. His home run was his third in the last four games.

Trey Cochran-Gill (5-2) went eight innings in the start for Auburn, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks, striking out seven, which matched his career high.

Florida A&M starter Chandler Moore (0-2) took the loss, allowing five runs without recording an out.

Auburn's seven runs in the first came off of two pitchers as Moore surrendered the first five, capped by Savage's fifth home run of the year to make it 5-0. Reliever Thomas Barwick then allowed a pair of unearned runs as Dan Glevenyak reached on an error and Caleb Bowen walked. A double-steal and a throwing error scored Glevenyak from second and a Mitchell Self sac fly scored Bowen for the seven-run advantage.

Jay Gonzalez and Ryan Tella each had two hits on the night.

Auburn returns to the field at 6pm on Tuesday when it plays host to Jacksonville State. Senior left-hander Cory Luckie will start on the mound for Auburn while Jacksonville State will start LHP Casey Antley.
