AUBURN | Malcolm Askew’s recruitment process is all but over.
The four-star athlete/cornerback recruit from McAdory, an Auburn commitment since the summer, only has one date still circled on his calendar.
“I’ll officially move to Auburn Jan. 8,” Askew said.
Askew, who is scheduled to graduate high school in December, took his official visit to Auburn over the weekend. He, his parents and sister arrived on campus Friday and stayed until Sunday afternoon.
“It was good to be able to stay the weekend and get a better idea of the academics and the program I’ll be going into, whichever one I choose,” Askew said. “I also got to meet a lot with the coaches and get a better understanding of how they’ll use me.”
Askew played quarterback for McAdory as a senior. He led the Yellow Jackets to the state playoffs and an 8-4 record while completing 93-of-176 passes for 1,552 yards and 18 touchdowns, and rushing for 473 yards and three scores.
His future at Auburn, however, is on defense.
“I talked to Coach (Kevin) Steele a lot about my position,” Askew said. “Right now they are looking at putting me at the nickel back where Rudy Ford is.”
Askew, who stands 5-foot-10 and weighs 180 pounds, plans to return to Auburn and participate in bowl practices in December before moving to campus in January. He’s also accepted an invitation to play in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game on Dec. 10.
Rivals.com ranks Askew the No. 11 athlete in the 2017 class and No. 159 in the Rivals250.
