AUBURN | Archer (Lawrenceville, Ga.) three-star cornerback Dylan Singleton received an early offer from Auburn. He just didn't realize what position it was to play.
He found out Saturday while in Auburn on an unofficial visit.
"Coach T-Rob (Travaris Robinson) said he could see me as a safety or nickel (back)," Singleton said. "I like that a lot, but I would play anywhere.
"I just want to be on the field, but I'm more comfortable playing safety. That's what I play now, so I like the idea of playing safety in college."
Singleton, 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds, spoke with Robinson, linebackers coach Lance Thompson, defensive coordinator/cornerbacks coach Will Muschamp and coach Gus Malzahn while on the visit. It was his second time in Auburn.
"It was a really good visit," he said. "They showed us a lot of nice things. I got to see more of the facilities, like the stadium and locker rooms, than I did the first time. I hadn't seen everything because my first visit was to a game, so it was nice to see more.
"I also got to interact with the coaches a lot. I liked talking to them. They are good coaches and good people. They kept it real with us. I liked it. It was just a good visit overall."
The visit put Auburn into Singleton's top four, along with Georgia, LSU and Florida State.

Archer (Lawrenceville, Ga.) Rivals250 receiver Kyle Davis, Singleton's teammate, committed last July to South Carolina, but was in Auburn on Saturday for a visit.
"I liked it," Davis said. "It was my third time at Auburn, and it went well."
Davis, 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, said the Tigers are in his top five, but that he remains very solid to the Gamecocks.
"Auburn has a beautiful campus and it felt like home," Davis said. "And it's only two hours away. My mom, if she needed something, I could drive to her and be right back.
"And the offense, I do it right now so it would be like second nature to me. I still have a top five and Auburn is in it."
Davis didn't say which other schools made up his top five, but it may not matter. He plans to sign with South Carolina.
"I'll make my final decision next year," Davis said. "But it would take a lot (to change my mind). I'm still committed to South Carolina. I still love the coaching staff and everything about it."
