AUBURN | Greenville five-star defensive end Marlon Davidson visited Auburn on Saturday and saw what he expected to see.
"It was a great game and a great atmosphere," Davidson said. "It was the Iron Bowl."
Davidson, ranked the No. 1 strongside end, was one of 120-plus recruits attending the game on an unofficial visit. He saw Auburn take a 6-3 lead into the second quarter, and Alabama come back to take a 29-13 win back to Tuscaloosa.
"I thought as a team Auburn played great," Davidson said. "I'm very encouraged. Defensive-wise, they stepped up. They got down and gritty and that's what I like.
"I was envisioning being out there."
Davidson, 6-foot-3 and 280 pounds, plans to be out there next year. He committed to Auburn in September and is scheduled to enroll in January.
He believes he can make an immediate impact at Auburn.
"I think I can get on the field early 100 percent," Davidson said. "I think with my caliber and potential and everything I have I think I can get on the field early."
Davidson is considering official visits to Georgia and Alabama.
"I might take an official visit to Georgia (on Dec. 4-6) and Alabama would probably be late, probably before the Under Armour game (on Jan. 2)," Davidson said. "I'll probably be in Auburn for the banquet (Dec. 11-13)."
Rivals.com ranks Davidson the No. 8 player in the 2016 class.
