AUBURN | Auburn has added a commitment from one of the top overall recruits in the 2017 Class.
Dr. Phillips (Orlando, Fla.) five-star offensive tackle Calvin Ashley informed Auburn of his decision while visiting for Big Cat.
"I'm very happy," Ashley said. "I brought my whole family up here this weekend and committed to Auburn. I'm just very, very happy. It's so much relief that I can now stay to one school and be very happy."
The school apparently is very happy, too.
After informing Auburn, Ashley, 6-foot-8 and 310 pounds, had to help settle down the coaches, including area recruiter Scott Fountain and offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee.
"Coach Lashlee actually jumped on me when I told them," Ashley said. "He hopped on me and I held him up. Everybody in the office was going crazy."
Ashley's mother, who made the trip with him, is very supportive of his decision. Especially after the visit they had Saturday for Big Cat.
"My parents are so happy. My mom said she loved it so much," Ashley said. "It was amazing. Auburn, it's everything. It's the culture. It's the family. The whole school treats you like family."
Ashley committed to Auburn over offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, Louisville, Ole Miss, Ohio State, South Carolina and Tennessee, among others.
Ashley is the first commitment for Auburn in the 2017 Class.
