4-star DB commit impressed with first Auburn game

AUBURN | Four-star safety Jamien Sherwood committed to Auburn in July, but did so without having attended a game inside Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Saturday night was his first.

Sherwood, his mother and friend all made the trip from Jensen Beach, Fla., and watched as Auburn beat Mississippi State, 49-10.

“It was a great game,” Sherwood said. “The offense moved the ball very efficiently, very well downfield. The defense, since the beginning of the season, has been locked down on all cylinders: pass, run, anything.”

Sherwood was impressed with the game day atmosphere. He was impressed by the sellout crowd of 87,451.

“It was loud,” Sherwood said. “They cheered for everything. Everybody was full of excitement, even when something went wrong. It was great.”

Sherwood’s only other visit this season came in mid-September when he trekked to Gainesville for the Gators’ last-second 26-20 win over Tennessee. The crowd was loud then, but not like Saturday night in Auburn.

“It was probably a little more,” Sherwood said of Auburn’s crowd noise. “Everybody was loud. It felt like everybody was more exited to be here.”

Florida continues to heavily pursue Sherwood and will receive another visit after the season.

“They’re coming after me hard,” Sherwood said. “I talked to them about (an official visit), and it might be after the season. They said they get all of their in-state guys in after the season.”

Sherwood also plans to return to Auburn.

“I might official for the Georgia game,” he said.

Sherwood is an early enrollee and will sign in the December signing period. He said Saturday night that, although he’ll visit Florida again, he’s “100 percent” with Auburn.

Rivals ranks Sherwood the No. 17 safety in the 2018 class, No. 200 overall and the No. 41 recruit in Florida.
