AUBURN | Bo Nix knows a lot about Auburn. The son of former Auburn quarterback Patrick Nix has visited campus numerous times.
Bo Nix now knows more about the Tigers’ new offensive coordinator, Chip Lindsey, after spending Saturday in Auburn with his parents and younger brother Caleb.
“I got to spend a lot of time with the coaches,” Bo Nix said. “I got to visit with Coach (Gus) Malzahn and Coach Lindsey, visit campus and be around the traditions. It was a really neat visit.”
Nix, who will be a junior at Pinson Valley in the fall, met extensively with Lindsey throughout the day. The two discussed Lindsey’s offense, how Nix would fit in the new scheme, and they also attended the Tigers’ baseball and basketball games together.
“Coach Lindsey is a great guy and a great coach,” Nix said. “He’s fun to be around. He has great wisdom for the game and I think Auburn gained a really good offensive coordinator. I think his offense fits me well. I’m looking forward to seeing how it looks next season.”
There are a lot of offenses that would showcase Nix’s skill set. Although only a sophomore, he’s 6-foot-2 and weighs 190 pounds. He’s an efficient passer, as well as a threat to run the ball. Nix scored 37 touchdowns and combined for more than 3,000 total yards last fall for Scottsboro.
Nix has early offers from several Power 5 programs, including Auburn, Florida State, Ohio State, Oklahoma State and Kentucky. He’s also receiving heavy interest from Clemson and Florida, among others.
Nix isn’t in a rush to make his college decision. He still has two years to consider his options. But Nix does have four schools presently standing out above the rest.
“Auburn, Clemson, Florida State and Ohio State seem to contact me more,” Nix said. “A lot of others have contacted me and talked to me, but those are the main four. I’m going to keep looking at my options, praying over my decision and seeing where I need to go to college."
Nix’s father’s college decision will have little impact on his own.
“Dad playing at Auburn is pretty special, but at the end of the day it is my decision,” Nix said. “It comes down to what I want to do. My parents are not forcing me one way or the other. I will go where I think I fit the best and to the school that wants me the most.”
Nix would have plenty of reasons to choose the Tigers.
“The coaches are incredible,” Nix said. “They are different from most. They don’t cuss at you. I like that, and I also like Auburn’s traditions. It’s just a great place. I really like it.”
Nix, who will transfer from Scottsboro to Pinson Valley in March, will visit other colleges this offseason, but doesn’t have any dates set at this time.
Nix completed 101-of-183 passes for 1,737 yards with 16 touchdowns and four interceptions in 2016. He also had 130 rushes for 1,300 yards and 20 scores.
