Coynis Miller made an important decision Saturday when he chose to commit to Auburn, but Miller, from Jackson-Olin in Birmingham, will have an even more important choice to make once he signs and arrives at Auburn.

Miller has the talent to thrive in the SEC, to thrive at Auburn.

“But he has to decide he wants to,” Jackson-Olin coach Tim Vakakes said. “He has to decide he wants to find that fire inside of him. He has to decide that he wants to be the best he can be.”

Miller has an easy path in high school. He’s 6-foot-2 and weighs 290 pounds. He’s fast. He’s strong. He’s quick. Miller is more athletic than the majority of his teammates and opponents.

Sometimes, however, having those qualities can work against Miller.

“In high school, he’s on cruise control,” Vakakes said. “He really doesn’t have a motor, yet. He paces himself and takes plays off in games. He doesn’t have that internal fire right now. He’s a good kid, a good person and he's tough, but he needs to be in an environment where there are others as big, strong and as fast as him.”
