AUBURN | Different camp, different opponent, same result for Colquitt County.
The Georgia school lost to Westside, 27-21, on the last play Saturday in the finals of Auburn's 7-on-7 Tournament.
"We lost the exact same way last week at Alabama," Colquitt County coach Rush Propst said. "We lost on the last play of the last game."
Westside, from Anderson, S.C., used a go-to route for the overtime winner.
"It was a slant-out concept," Westside coach Scott Earley said. "It was a play we felt like we could hit."
Westside won the tournament after making it to the finals last year and losing. Saturday was redemption and hopefully an omen.
"Last year we made it to the playoffs for the first time in forever," Earley said. "We owe that confidence to Auburn University, and hopefully this win will carry over to us going deeper into the playoffs this year."
The tournament included 40 teams from 37 schools in six different states. Auburn offensive analyst and former Byrnes (S.C.) coach Bobby Bentley coordinated the event.
"Bobby does such a phenomenal job of running this thing," Earley said. "We felt like this is one of the best 7-on-7 tournaments in the country, and we've met with Gus Malzahn and the coaches and we just like what Auburn does."
Tide OL commit camps
From AuburnSports.com senior editor Bryan Matthews
One of the top offensive linemen at Saturday's camp was Netori Johnson from Cedar Grove in Ellenwood, Ga. The 2017 standout committed to Alabama a few weeks ago.
"I like being committed to Alabama but you never know down the road, your mind could always be changed," Johnson said. "Right now, I'm 100 percent Bama."
Johnson, 6-foot-4 and 325 pounds, has visited Auburn on several occasions.
"Auburn was one of my favorite schools and kinda still is," Johnson said. "I'm still kind of with them. I like the environment and that it's not too far from my house. I don't want to go too far. The coaching staff is beautiful. I love the campus. Everything about Auburn, I just like."
Saturday Notes
* Auburn extended an offer to Collinsville (Okla.) junior outside linebacker Levi Draper. Draper, 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds, already claims offers from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Alabama, Clemson, Florida State and Missouri, among others.
* Carrollton (Ga.) three-star defensive end Micheal Boykin visited Auburn and nearly committed. Boykin, 6-foot-6 and 250 pounds, said he's "99.9 percent" certain he'll commit soon to Auburn.
