AUBURN | John Curtis Rivals100 offensive tackle Willie AllenClick [rl]Here to view this Link. left a two-night unofficial visit to Auburn on Saturday and already plans to return for another.
Next time, it will be official.
"I loved it," Allen, ranked the No. 5 offensive tackle, said. "I loved everything and I know I'll be back for an official visit."
Allen, 6-foot-7 and 300 pounds, and the John Curtis basketball team made the trip from River Ridge, La. to Auburn on Thursday. Allen spent the majority of the next 48 hours with football players and the head football coach, Gus Malzahn.
"I hung out with Deon Mix, Tyler Carr and a few other offensive linemen," Allen said. "I also hung out with Coach Gus and met his wife, went out to eat and then some of us went bowling."
Knocking down pins turned into a competition, one Allen says he didn't lose.
"We had a lot of fun bowling, me and a bunch of the freshman o-linemen," Allen said. "We made it that the loser had to do 60 pushups, and it was only my second time to bowl, but I promise you the loser wasn't me."
Allen and John Curtis played their first game Friday morning. Malzahn was there before the tip and spent the remainder of the day hosting the Tigers' top target at tackle.
"That made me feel really good," Allen said. "He made it known that they want me. I hung out with him, met his wife (Kristy) and they made me feel at home."
So did others, which made an impression on Allen.
"Not just the football aspect of Auburn, but the people are amazing," Allen said. "Coming from six hours away I couldn't have gotten a better feeling from the people. It was great."
Allen doesn't list any favorites at this time, but plans to start narrowing his list at the end of the summer.
"I like this place. I could see myself at Auburn," Allen said. "I fit the offense really well and they will have a lot of offensive linemen leaving.
"I don't have a top group of schools, but Auburn will be in it when I do. I really like it at Auburn. I feel at home and I'm definitely coming back, definitely taking an official (visit) here."
Allen next will visit Georgia on July 18-20, and plans to visit both TCU and LSU before the end of the summer.
Rivals.com ranks Allen the No. 4 overall player in Louisiana.
