Jackson closing in on decision

AUBURN | Shedrick Jackson has a more definitive timetable for a commitment following his visit to Auburn’s Big Cat recruiting event.

The three-star wide receiver from Hoover (Ala.) High, who recently named the Tigers along with Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, Missouri and Memphis in his top five, wants to commit to one of those schools within the next two weeks.

The thought of committing during his visit to Auburn Saturday was even discussed with head coach Gus Malzahn.

“I talked to Coach about it. I talked to him about where I stood with Auburn, him, coming down here. I'm taking it day by day,” Jackson said.

Malzahn, offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey and wide receivers coach Kodi Burns made sure Jackson knew how high a priority he was for Auburn.

“They want me here to be a Tiger. It was pretty great,” Jackson said.

The one hang-up in Jackson’s plan is Missouri, which offered him a month ago. He has yet to visit Missouri and might not be able to before he announces a decision.

If that’s the case, Jackson is not ruling out an official visit to Missouri during the season even if he’s committed to another school.

With Jackson being the nephew of former Auburn great Bo Jackson and having made multiple trips to the school, many have pegged the home-state Tigers as the favorite.

“Just the type place it is, honestly. The atmosphere around here, the bond the coaches have with the players, is great,” Jackson said.

“I had a lot of fun (at Big Cat),” he added. “It was kind of like the Junior Days I've been to but it was a lot more interaction, talking to the coaching staff and a bunch of other guys. I had a great time.”
