Two of the South's top linebacker prospects will announce their commitments on different days in August, but their choices will be the same.

Oxford’s K.J. Britt, whom Rivals ranks as one of the top middle linebackers in the 2017 class, is scheduled to announce his commitment on Aug. 8. Tadarian Moultry, a four-star outside linebacker recruit from Jackson-Olin in Birmingham, will announce soon before or soon after Britt.

“I’ll either do it the day before or the day after him,” Moultry said.

The two in-state prospects and friends attend high schools more than 60 miles apart, but decided recently they wanted their next schools to be closer in proximity. A lot closer.

“We want to play beside each other,” Moultry said. “We don’t play on the same team now, but we want to in college.”

There are several reasons for their decisions to attend the same college.

“He’s a great linebacker,” Moultry said. “He thinks that I’m a great linebacker. We have become pretty close friends and we like a lot of the same schools. We think we would make a great linebacker combo.”

Britt, who stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 223 pounds, released his commitment plans Sunday night on Twitter. He’ll release a top group of schools on April 11.

Several of Britt's finalists will be from the SEC. He visited Georgia, Florida and Auburn over the past three weekends and the three schools are expected to make the cut. So are Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

“I don’t know which school I’ll choose, yet,” Britt said. “I have a lot of great offers. I just want to make the best decision.”

Whatever the choice, the chances are high it will be the same as Moultry’s.

“I’ve seen (Moultry’s) highlights and they are really good,” Britt said. “Me and him are going to be great linebackers at the same college.”

Britt is scheduled to visit Auburn again on March 31. Moultry, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 220 pounds, also will visit Auburn again this spring.

Moultry left his previous visit to Auburn – which he took in February – with the Tigers on top. Britt also is high on Auburn.

“They need linebackers,” Britt said. “I feel like there’s a good chance of going in and playing early at Auburn, and I really like the linebackers coach, Coach T-Will (Travis Williams). He's great. I love Coach T-Will.”
