Auburn standing out to Thomas

AUBURN | Niceville (Fla.) cornerback Juanyeh Thomas didn’t commit to Auburn at Big Cat, unlike his former teammate, Eli Stove, two years earlier.

But Thomas considered it.

“It didn’t happen,” Thomas said. “But every time I come back, I just feel more at home.”

Thomas was one of 33 recruits in Auburn last Saturday for the Tigers’ annual recruiting event. He spent time with the coaches and other recruits, as well as Stove, a former Niceville standout and current sophomore at Auburn.

“We went to the stadium and had a little fun,” Thomas said. “I watched (Eli) run routes and catch passes, and I met all the players. It was cool. The best part was bonding with other players, people in the same class as me.”

Thomas left the visit without naming a leader, but said one school stands out with the attention it has shown.

“I don’t have an official leader, but I can say who is recruiting me the most, and that’s Auburn,” Thomas said.

But not Stove.

“Eli, he’s just telling me to wait and see how it is and make my decision,” Thomas said.

Florida and Georgia Tech also are showing a lot of interest in Thomas.

“And a couple of other schools are coming on the radar, but I don’t want to say too much about them right now,” Thomas said.

Thomas plans to make a commitment in August, and will return to Auburn at least once more before doing so.

“I’ll most likely come back in July,” Thomas said.
