AUBURN | Jac’Qwan McRoy came into Thursday with 11 offers. He left Auburn with a dozen.

The massive offensive tackle from Clay-Chalkville in Pinson, Ala., earned an offer from the Tigers following an impressive camp performance.

“It means a lot,” said McRoy. “It gives me a chance to be a home-state hero. That’s a big in-state offer because there’s been a Nebraska and all them but they’re not anywhere near here. I knew it was gonna come but I was patient and humble and finally got to the camp and showed them what I could do.”

McRoy was in Auburn with his teammates for a 7-on-7 camp. Of course, at 6-foot-8 and 350 pounds, he wasn’t competing in the 7-on-7, but did go head-to-head with the defensive linemen at the camp.

He excelled during a pass-rush drill, getting a lot of 1-on-1 instruction from AU offensive line coach Will Friend and offensive analyst Joe Bernardi. Head coach Bryan Harsin and offensive coordinator Eric Kiesau also stopped by to watch and evaluate.

“Oh my goodness. He takes the time out to work with you,” said McRoy of Friend. “Most times you go to a camp, the coach will be, ‘OK, you messed up. Just get to the back of the line and let the other person stepped up.’

“He really took the time out to show you what you did wrong and how you could fix it. It was nice."

This was McRoy’s third visit to Auburn. He attended two games last fall including the Iron Bowl.

“They had it but it just went out the window. They went to overtime and it just went South,” said McRoy. “The atmosphere was amazing. It was amazing. I loved it.”

McRoy also has offers from LSU, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Nebraska, UAB, Troy, Arkansas State and Alabama State. He plans to camp at Arkansas this weekend and Florida the next.

It’s early in his recruitment but McRoy said three schools currently standout among those that have offered.

“Of course LSU, Auburn and Kentucky,” he said.
